Tehran, Dec 25, IRNA -- The International Football Association (FIFA)
in a communique issued on Monday praised the Iranian National Football
team for being the most active national football team in the world
during the year 2,000.
According to the Iranian Football Association's Public Relations
Office, Iran's position in FIFA's latest qualification of the world's
national teams is four steps above this team's previous status in
November.
Iran, along with Saudi Arabia, each with 585 points, have also
been entitled the "best Asian football teams" during the year 2000.
These two teams rank 36th in the world currently, based on the latest
FIFA qualification.
The next two best Asian teams are Japan and South Korea, with 854
and 579 points respectively standing at the 38th and 40th steps of
the world's best national football teams.
It should be noted that Iran's position as the 36th best national
football team is 12 levels higher than this team's position at the end
of the year 1999 in FIFA's last year qualification.
