President Khatami then offered certificate of merit to Mr. Salajeqeh, the executor of the project for expansion of local Ramin thermal power plant.

Prior to the president's remarks, minister of energy Habibollah Bitaraf said the country's energy generation capacity has risen to about 26,000 mega watts from 7,724 mega watts at the outset of the revolution.

Bitaraf said the share of Khouzestan in total amount of energy produced in the country was 3,800 mega watts. He said the figure is expected to increase following operationing of three dams in Khouzestan province.

President Khatami on Wednesday wrapped up his one-day visit to the southern province and returned to Tehran along with his accompanying delegation including ministers of energy, agriculture and defense.
