Kuala Lumpur, June 28, IRNA -- Foreign ministers of Iran and Egypt
here Wednesday reviewed regional developments and bilateral
cooperation in international organizations, especially within the
Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Kamal Kharrazi and Amr Moussa met on the sidelines of the ongoing
OIC foreign ministerial meeting here.
Welcoming Iran's policies, Amr Mousa said that measures and
initiatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran have bolstered
confidence and friendship in the region.
Underlining the significant role that major regional countries
play in the maintenance of security in the region, he said such a
role further strengthens Islamic countries.
Amr Moussa said that currently the two countries hold common
views on many regional and international issues, adding that the trend
of bilateral relations between Iran and Egypt is moving in a sound
direction. He stressed that potentials of the two countries should
be employed in a proper way.
Pointing to the triumph of the Lebanese resistance, he said
victory of the Islamic resistance in Lebanon caused international
agencies to confirm the resistance and further realized Hizbollah's
importance.
Speaking for his part, Kharrazi said that the pullout of the
Zionist forces was a great victory for the Lebanese Islamic
resistance and further strengthened self-confidence in regional
countries showing that triumph will be realized in light of
resistance.
He underlined the need for unconditional withdrawal of Israel
from occupied territories and stressed that the Zionist regime
should submit to the will of the Lebanese people.
Citing the potentials of Islamic countries, Kharrazi said that
Muslims should adopt a specific strategy in an effort to confront
conspiracies of the Zionist regime.
He underscored the importance of the security of the region and
said that regional security can be safeguarded only in the light of
building confidence among regional countries and through presence
and cooperation of regional states.
Kharrazi further added that Iran's relations with neighboring
countries have improved to an outstanding level to the interest
of the regional people, adding that such facilities and potentials
should be employed for confrontation with Israel.
Highlighting the rich Iran-Egypt culture and civilization, the
Iranian foreign minister said cooperation between the two countries
which are among major world countries can reinforce solidarity among
Islamic states.
Kharrazi has so far separately met and conferred with his
counterparts from Indonesia, Jordan, Oman and Malaysia as well as the
OIC secretary general and Philippine presidential advisor on the
sidelines of the 27th meeting of OIC foreign ministers.
The Kuala Lumpur OIC meeting is to end its work on Friday.
