In an interview with IRANA Behzad Nabavi said: "The group that since May 2000 have been meeting weekly are preparing a strategy for 2nd Khordad Front.
Seied Hadi Khameneii, Mohtashami Pour, Mohamad Reza Khatami, Gholam Hossein Karbaschi, Hadi Khaniki and Behzad Nabvi are named as the members of this board.
According to Nabavi, this board is a legitimate offspring of different groups of 2nd Khordad and there is no talk about 'transcending Khatami' in this group. This group has nothing to do with another gathering held weekly with Mr. Mosavi Khoeniha as its head. This group is called 'Harmonizing Council of 2nd Khordad Groups' and it has issued two or three declarations so far.
In reply to the question concerning referendum about reformation, Nabavi said: "The debate on referendum is like that of the Assembly of Tashkhis Maslehat (discerning the best). As the latter should be the last stage of the work, referendum too should be the last resort."
Nabavi added: "To me, we are not in a situation where referendum can be a solution. We still have not reached the stage of political obstruction to need referendum. Surely this is one of the clauses asserted in our Constitutional Law, but there is no need to use it under the present conditions.
Today President Khatami has many advantages that were not clear in 2nd Khordad and if the conditions for holding the next presidential election would be the same as today, I don't think any body else except Khatami would be the choice.
I don't think it is true that Mr. Khatami will not participate in the election while I know there are many problems. One of the alternatives that the groups opposing Mr. Khatami have is to boycott the election but that would be an anti-revolutionary and anti-regime act. The best choice for these groups is "Mr. Khatami's withdrawal from the election. To me there are some attempts taken in this regard so that the atmosphere would be in such a way as to make Mr. Khatami to withdraw. At the same time the situation would be in such as way that 2nd Khordad would not introduce another candidate and people would not naturally participate in the election.
In this case, the election would be held with only an insignificant participation on the side of people. I personally do not know whether Mr. Khatami would join the election or not, but I do hope that he would."
