Tehran, Jan 8, IRNA -- Majlis Deputy Ali-Akbar Mousavi Khoeiniha said
Monday the Prisons Organization plans to monitor and control the
unofficial prisons shortly.
Khoeiniha who is also a member of the group of MPs visiting the
Tehran custodies and prisons said a list of prisons had been prepared
after the visits to the Tehran prisons which shows the fact that it is
not clear these prisons were administered or supervised by which
institution or agency.
A report submitted to the Intelligence Ministry on the Tohid
Prison resulted in the closure of the said prison by the order of the
intelligence minister, he told a group of reporters, calling it among
the important results of the visits.
He said the Intelligence Ministry was one of the main bodies which
was actively cooperating with the group of MPs visiting the prisons
adding that the ministry has given the responsibility to administer
the unit 209 of the Evin prison to the Prisons Organization.
Commenting on the now closed Tohid prison, Khoeiniha who is also
the secretary of the Tehran MPs Association said the prison is to turn
into a cultural complex or a museum in which the backgrounds of the
prominent personalities of the Iranian system would be displayed.
He said the custodies of the Law Enforcement Forces would also
be supervised by the Prisons Organization and later on the MPs would
visit them.
He said the MPs visiting the prisons found that there were also
prisons handled independently by the law enforcement forces stations,
the security services of the army and the Islamic Revolution Guards
Corps.
He said the MPs have visited some prisons or custodies run
independently by the Law Enforcement Forces, the Judiciary and
the Revolutionary Court.
The Law Enforcement Forces Security Department Head Ramazani
is trying to administer the LEF custodies within the limits of the
law to vanish the past bitter memories from the mind of
the people, he stated.
He said the MPs also paid a visit to a 40-year-old prison where
some of the suspects of the serial killings case were incarcerated
Khoeiniha praised the officials in various organizations for their
good cooperation with the MPs visiting the prisons and custodies and
called upon the authorities with the military and security agencies
to help the Prisons Organization to effectively supervise the prisons
in the country.
The group of the MPs had a meeting with the Judiciary Head
Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi on the conditions of the prisons.
Shahroudi is undertaking great strides to remove the problems
facing the prisons, the MPs said.
An investigation unit is set up within the Judiciary to examine
the problems facing the prisoners and it would work with
representatives from the parliament in reviewing the drawbacks in the
prisons, said the MP, adding that the unit would start its work
shortly and independently from the political issues.
As for participants in the Berlin Conference, Khoeiniha said
Sahabi and Afshari have been transferred from the Evin Prison a few
days ago but it is not clear where they are detained.
