Iran's U.N. envoy: Iran enjoys most democratic system of government in world
New York, March 20, IRNA -- Iran's permanent envoy to the U.N. Hadi Nejad-Hosseinian said in Michigan on Monday that Iran, by holding more than 20 free elections, has one of the most democratic systems of government in the world.

Nejad-Hosseinian in an address to Iranians residing in the Michigan State, congratulated all Iranians residing in the U.S. on the occasion of Noruz, marking the new Iranian calendar year, 1380 (to start on March 21).

Recalling Iran's rich historical background and civilization, he stressed that the Iranian nation has always been vigilant and powerful, playing a positive and effective role in the region and the world thanks to its anicent history and culture.

He said the Islamic Revolution of Iran has left drastic impact on the world. Today too, the ideas raised by Iran at international level, have effective part in global developments, he added.

Nejad-Hosseinian said the Islamic Republic of Iran, by holding 22 elections since its establishment in 1979 stands as the most popular system of government worldwide.

He hailed the Iranian people's role in the development and progress of their country and stressed the importance of public presence on various scenes to foil enemy plots.

He referred to Iran's chairmanship of the G-77, comprising 133 developing states, as a victory for the country at international level.

Nejad-Hosseinian then answered questions, raised by Iranians present in the meeting, on Iran-U.S. ties, internal political disputes, promotion of democracy and the rule of law in Iran, women's role, public awareness and the political and independent stances of Iran.

Meanwhile, Nejadhosseinian in a new year message to Iranians residing in the U.S. called on them to maintain their spiritual bonds with the Islamic Iran.

He said Iranians residing in the U.S. are expected to double their efforts to introduce the rich Iranian-Islamic culture to world public opinion.
