President Mohammad Khatami will soon inaugurate the second phase of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery, located in Sarakhs in Khorasan province.
The Oil Ministry reported on 13 April 2002 that the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has established two new refining units as well as a sulfur-recycling unit to increase gas exploitation from regional resources and meet the needs of development projects. These units, it added, will refine and supply 17 million cubic meters of gas to the network as well as produce 670 tons of sulfur daily.
Once the second unit becomes operational, the daily capacity of referable gas and sulfur production will increase to 42 million cubic meters and 1,970 tons, respectively.
The first phase of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery was inaugurated in January 1983 and its daily capacity is 25 million cubic meters or 15% of the country’s total gas consumption.
