Qazvin, Aug 27, IRNA -- A court in the northwestern Qazvin province
has ordered a local weekly to suspend its publication for publishing
"insulting materials and lies as well as instigating public opinion".
The suspension order was announced by the Justice Department of
the Qazvin province, saying the weekly Name-ye Qazvin (Letter of
Qazvin) would remain closed until further notice.
The suspension is the second in the city since another weekly
Hadith-e Qazvin was suspended by the same court five days ago.
The editor of Name-ye Qazvin, Ali Shahrouzi, regretted the
order, saying the court had not informed him yet of its decision as
well as charges brought against the weekly.
Press Tuesday said a Tehran court has banned the daily Gozaresh-e
Rouz (Daily Report) from publishing and sentenced its editor Mohammad
Mahdavi Khorrami to 28 months in prison on a series of charges.
The Press Court convicted early this month Khorrami on charges of
propagating against the Islamic Republic, brought by the Islamic
Revolution's Guards Corps and the Police as well as the Ansar-e
Hezbollah group.
The Persian daily Aftab-e Yazd cited Khorrami's lawyer, Mohammad
Hossein Aghasi, as saying that another file is still open at the
court for charge of publishing lies by the daily.
Iranian courts have summoned scores of journalists and closed
down their publications for 'publishing lies and instigating the
public opinion'.
On Saturday, a Tehran court summoned Mohammad Dadfar, the
managing editor of the daily Ayene-ye Jonoub (Mirror of the South)
which was ordered closed early this month.
The daily, rising from a local weekly in southern Iran to a
nationwide newspaper, has been suspended from publications on the
ground that Dadfar had previously been sentenced to jail on charge of
propagating against the Islamic Revolution.
