Berlin, Dec 17, IRNA -- Iranian-born Omid Nouripour was elected
to the presiding board of the Greens Party, a junior partner of the
Social Democratic-led German government coalition, the daily
Frankfurter Rundschau reported Tuesday.
A resident of Frankfurt, the 27-year-old Nouripour is also
spokesman of the Youth Wing of the Greens Party in the southeast
German state of Hesse.
A student of German language and literature, Nouripour gained
prominence within the rank and file of the environmentalist and
pacifist party for his stance against xenophobia and hatred of
foreigners.
The politician, who received his German citizenship earlier this
year, speaks four languages--Farsi, German, English and French.
Nouripour's family immigrated to Germany in 1988.
