IIPF says two bills put forward by president minimum expectations

Tehran, Dec 17, IRNA -- The Islamic Iran Participation Front (IIPF) said on Tuesday that putting into force the two bills on extension of the president's authority and the amendment to the election law will serve national progress and development.

The largest political party said in a statement at the end of its extraordinary congress faxed to IRNA that all those sympathetic with the Islamic Revolution should consider that the democratic nature of the Constitution is the only breakthrough to get out of the political stalemate.

It will be possible only through democratization of the constitutional organs in line with the spirit of the Constitution, the statement said in reference to the Guardians Council.

The IIPF said that the reform camp believes that the Constitution has extensive capacity to meet the public demand and the two bills put forward to the legislature by the president is the minimum expectations from the Constitution.

"The IIPF believes that the Constitutional provisions are strong enough to meet the public demands and that of the reform movement and insists that the reform camp is in conformity with the Constitution," it said.

The political party called on those loyal to the Islamic Revolution to adopt a democratic approach toward the Constitution different from what it said the "conservative outlook".

Otherwise, blocking the two bills will trigger political deadlock, it said adding that the reform camp will not come together with those who may prefer to block the bills.

The political party complained that those opposing the bills have taken non-compromisory measures to lead the political climate to chaos citing the verdict against (war veteran) academic Hashem Aghajari and the orchestrating controversial proceedings against those in charge of the governmental polling institutes including Abbas Abdi (well known reformist).

The statement said that the two bills on extension of the president's authority and the amendment to the elections law are the criteria for cooperation with the ruling system. Otherwise, there remains no place for the reformers to remain in the political structure.

The statement stressed that the reform movement will prevail in line with the Constitutional provisions and said that the reform camp will never exceed the boundaries of the law and the Constitution.
