Earthquake jolts Kermanshah province
Kermanshah, Dec 31, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 3.6 degrees on the
Richter scale jolted areas 50 miles to the northeast of the provincial
capital of Kermanshah.
The tremors occurred at 12:36 hours local time (9:06 GMT) Tuesday
morning.
The Kermanshah seismological center affiliated to the Tehran
University's Geo-physics Institute put the epicenter of the tremors
around the town of 'Dinavar'. There are no reports on possible damage
or injuries.
Meanwhile, the Head of Kermanshah province Seismographic Center
Qassemi said here on Thursday that ever since the province was hit by
a quake measuring 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale last Tuesday, 15
more after-shocks have been recorded.
Qassemi told IRNA that the strongest after-shocks measured 4.2,
3.0 and 2.9 degrees on the Richter scale.
The 5.3 degree quake striking part of the province at 20:33 on
Tuesday night was centered at Dinavar.
Simultaneous after-shocks were, meanwhile, reported in Hamedan and
Kurdestan provinces.
The after-shock in Dinavar, inflicted heavy material loss including
3,000 demolished houses at villages, while 15 individuals were
wounded.
A great number of the residents of the damaged village of Dinavar
currently live in tents.
Quake shakes southwestern Iranian city
Tehran, Dec 31, IRNA -- An earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.2
degrees on the open-ended Richter scale, jolted the southwestern city
of Masjed Soleyman on Monday.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to
Tehran University, recorded the quake at 21:45 hours local time (1815
GMT) with its epicenter at the northern parts of the city.
There were no immediate reports of possible casualty or damage to
property caused by the quake.
Iran sits on some of the world's seismic faultlines and is often
shaken by earthquakes of various intensities.
As of 1991, over 950 earthquakes have hit the country, resulting
in the death of 17,600 people and injuries to 53,300 others.
Quake shakes Dehdasht
Dehdasht, Kohkilouyeh-Boyer Ahmad Prov, Dec 31, IRNA -- An earthquake,
with a magnitude of 3.8 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale,
jolted Dehdasht city in this Iranian province on Monday.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to
Tehran University, recorded the quake at 8:28 hours local time (0500
GMT). Its epicenter was not immediately reported.
There were no immediate reports of possible casualty or damage to
property caused by the quake.
