New York, July 18, IRNA -- A ceremony was held here on Wednesday to bid Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Envoy to the UN Hadi who has been replaced.

Senior UN officials, ambassadors and representatives of other member countries of the UN, heads and officials of Iranian institutions in the US, a group of Iranian cultural and scientific personalities, and Iranian residents in the US were present at the ceremony.

In the ceremony, the Iranian mission in the United Nations expressed words of appreciation for the services of Nejad-Hosseinian and wished him success in further endeavors.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi had announced on June 24 that Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad-Javad Zarif would take over the post of Nejad-Hosseinian.

Asefi then said Zarif had been appointed to the post given his record of performance, especially during Iran's chairmanship of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and with respect to the UN-recognized national proposal for a dialogue among civilizations.

Asefi said the post of permanent envoy and representative of Iran to the UN is a highly important post and the best choice for the job is Zarif.
