Asefi blasts law to restrict Iranians' entry to US

Tehran, May 16, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here on Wednesday that the law on restriction of Iranian nationals' visit to the US explicitly contradicts the spirit and principles of the international conventions and the most basic civil rights of citizens.

Asefi said the law is the US government's attempt to isolate community of human beings and block public exchanges. He added that it is also another dimension of the US unilateralism.

"The US is abusing the September 11 incident and is vainly trying to link all issues with the subject; the US foreign policy in its deterioration course makes the US and the US citizens further isolated."

Imposition of restriction for the visit of Iranian nationals to the US once again shows the country's hostile policy against Iranian people, added the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Following its defeat in deceiving Iranian people to accept the "baseless and hostile" publicity of Washington and its failure to isolate people and officials, the US government is going to impose limits on Iranian people for their freedom of choice. This reveals dubious intentions and false policies of the US officials in honoring the votes and rights of the people of countries and proves their weak memory to recall their repeated claim of supporting Iranian people.

He specified that Iranian nationals on different parts of the globe have been source of pride not only for Iran and Iranians but also for the host countries and different US officials in the past have repeatedly and on different occasions acknowledged to it.

He said such measures, adopted under the pretext of guarantee the US citizens' security, would not meet long-term interests of the US and would have no result but further mistrust of Iranian nation in the US government.

He regretted that the landslide votes cast in favor of the bill by the US lawmakers show lack of sincerity on the part of even a US representative for holding dialogue with Iran.
