Tehran, Nov 9, IRNA -- The Majlis will debate the issue of rotten meat
Sunday in an open session attended by some eight state, security and
Judiciary officials related to the case, the press reported Saturday.
The Persian-language 'Entekhab' quoted the rapporteur of the
Majlis Agriculture Commission, Khalil Aqaei, as saying that the
session will try to find out how and in what quantities rotten meat
has been imported into the country, and will announce the results on
the same day.
Aqaei added that the minister of agriculture, minister of
commerce, Chairman of the Customs Administration, deputy minister of
the interior for security affairs, deputy minister of information,
representative of the Justice Department, the ruling judge of the
case, and the first Majlis vice-speaker will attend the session.
He highlighted the need that the root cause of the issue will be
addressed, stressing that the case takes its stem from smuggling
currently rampant in the Islamic Republic.
The deputy from Meshkinshahr said the fact that all concerned
officials say they are unaware of the details of the case is a sign
that "they are only trying to put the blame on others, or want to
escape the responsibility for a probe."
Aqaei further stressed that if a fundamental campaign is launched
in the case of imported rotten meat, the dark points in the case
would be known.
The Health Ministry recently reported that several hundred tones
of rotting frozen meat have been clandestinely imported into Iran
from remote southern ports, and have been distributed in at least 10
out of Iran's 28 provinces.
The meat, originated in India, had been initially imported by
Persian Gulf countries, where they had been rejected for carrying the
sarcosystis parasites.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed
Ali Khamenei, in a directive has called on the Judiciary to follow
the case seriously, and has authorized the judge in the case to
declare death penalties for the culprits.
