Goethe Institute rules out re-opening of Tehran office in 2003

Berlin, Nov 29, IRNA -- A spokeswoman for the Goethe Institute said the German cultural center will not re-open its Tehran office during the next year, citing the need for further planning.

"Surely we won't re-open next year," Julia Muhler told the Protestant Press Service (epd) on Friday.

"We are approaching it with great care and hence there is no time horizon," she added.

A cultural advisor of the Goethe Institute is currently in Tehran to compile a "location analysis", according to Muhler.

The Goethe Institute was officially opened in 1958 but had to cease its cultural activities in 1981 as a result of a political row between Germany and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
