Kuala Lumpur, Oct 23, IRNA -- The undisputed champion Iran thrashed
the Uzbek side Tuesday, the first day of the 4th Asian Futsal
Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Iran routed the indoor football squad of Uzbekistan 5-0.
According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Malaysia,
Thailand, and Indonesia also won their opening matches.
The host team of Indonesia demolished the Chinese side 6-0. In
other matches, Malaysia narrowly won its clash against Taiwan 7-6
while the two futsal sides of South Korea and Bahrain fought to a 5-5
draw. Thailand overcame Brunei 14-10 and the two teams of Kyrgyzstan
and Kuwait tied 2-2.
Thailand, Iran, and Indonesia lead groups 1, 2, and 3
respectively.
The powerful side of Iran won the Asian futsal titles in all three
tournaments held in Malaysia, Thailand, and Tehran in 1999, 2000, and
2001 respectively.
The preliminary round of Jakarta-based competitions run through
October 27. The semifinal matches start on October 29.
