Tehran, Oct 26, IRNA -- At the outset of the sixth archaeological
excavation season, an international team comprising Iranian, Georgian
and Italian experts hope to make new discoveries in the ancient city
of Shahr-e Soukhteh, Sistan and Baluchestan province.
According to a report released by the news media of Iran's
Cultural Heritage Organization here on Saturday, the archaeological
team is determined to reexamine all the information so far ontained
on Shahr-e Soukhteh to clarify any ambiguities in this respect.
The archaeological team is determined to examine the plants
covering the area and its agricultural products. Moreover, the
experts will analyze the texture of the unearthed fabrics to discover
their origin.
Shahr-e Soukhteh measuring 150 hectares and located 56 kms from
Zabol belongs to the third millennium BC.
It is composed of various monuments, residential areas, a
graveyard and an industrial complex.
Thick earthenware pipes unearthed at a corner of Shahr-e
Soukhteh, in the course of the former excavation seasons, mark the
existence of drainage pipelines in the ancient city in the third
millennium BC.
During the current excavation season in Shahr-e Soukhteh, the
industrial complex of the 5,000-year-old city is to be surveyed for
the first time.
