Tabriz, Oct 28, IRNA -- A moderately strong earthquake, with a
magnitude of 4.1 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale, shook the
city of Ahar in the northwestern Iranian province of East Azarbaijan
Monday.
The seismological base of Tabriz, affiliated to the Geophysics
Institute of Tehran University, said the quake occurred at 11:27
hours local time (0757 GMT) with its epicenter at 64 kilometers of
the provincial capital Tabriz.
There has been no report yet on possible casualty or property
damage caused by the quake.
Iran is situated in an active seismic zone and tremors of low
intensity are almost the rule.
At least 305 people were killed in an earthquake which hit the
northwestern and western provinces of Qazvin, Hamedan and Zanjan on
June 22.
