Madrid, Oct 29, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami said on Tuesday that the US administration has escalated international terrorism and is working to weaken pro-intellect Islam.

He said in a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, that what the US officials are practicing at the international scene portrays their evil.

He categorically rejected any link between al-Qaeda-Taliban and Iran and said that such allegations are rooted in US propaganda campaign against Iran.

According respect to the American people, President Khatami said that US President George W. Bush and al-Qaeda leader Bin Laden are the two poles of extremism which both lead to terrorism in the world.

He appreciated the role Iranian women have taken in administering state affairs and said that women in all countries are suffering from exploitation so that the international community should double its efforts to help women achieve their rights.

He voiced Iran's opposition to the US unilateral and bullying approach toward the international issues and said that the US administration has not the right to interfere in Iraqi internal affairs and make decision on behalf of the Iraqi people, because, certainly the American people will not allow the Iraqi government to set up a government for them.

President Khatami said that Iraqi crisis should be resolved within the framework of the United Nations resolutions.

President Khatami arrived in Madrid on Monday for a four-day visit at the invitation of Spanish King Juan Carlos.
