Tehran, Oct 30, IRNA -- Government spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh
said on Wednesday that the parliamentary commission has approved the
bill on amendment to the election law and giving more authority for
the president.
Asked what would be the government's initiative if the Guardians
Council rejected the bill, he replied that there is no need for other
initiative then.
When his attention was drawn to the reformist MP Shakuri-Rad's
statement that if the bills were not approved President Khatami will
not remain in the post, he replied, "Mr. Khatami has no spokesman to
speak on his behalf. The president himself or his office may comment.
"As the president has already said at a press conference, the
government believes that the two bills submitted to the parliament is
not contradictory to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic and the
Islamic Sharia law. We don't think that the bills will be rejected."
