Letter from an Iranian-American employee of the San Francisco Chapter of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee

Dear Iranian Community,

I am a young Iranian American woman and an employee of the San Francisco Chapter of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADCSF). One of my interests is building ties between the Iranian American and Arab American communities. ADCSF is a civil rights organization working on issues from INS Special Registration, hate violence and racial profiling, to the support of Palestinian people, to organizing efforts against the war. While ADCSF works primarily with the Arab American community, the programs of our organization benefit Iranian Americans in many ways. For example, we have organized community monitors and legal clinics for INS Special Registration where the Iranian community has been served through Farsi speaking monitors and attorneys. ADCSF also hosts a 24 hour hotline, for hate crimes and discrimination, where I myself have spoken with different Iranians who have called in to report cases of discrimination, hate violence, or harassment.

The Arab American and the Iranian American communities have many common links to build on, we can be great allies. On Saturday evening April 12th we will be having a banquet at the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco. ADCSF is a grassroots non-profit community organization and by attending this banquet you can support our vital programs. Azmi Bishara, the Palestinian elected official of the Israeli Knesset will be the keynote speaker. Tickets are $60.00 and $40.00 with a valid student i.d.. Our website is www.adcsf.org. If you would like to purchase tickets to our banquet, please send checks to ADCSF to 522 Valencia Street San Francisco CA 94110. If you have any questions about the banquet or our programs, please feel free to contact me at(415) 861-7444, adcsf@hotmail.com or baharjan@hotmail.com. The banquet flyer is below.

ADC-SF Annual Banquet

The San Francisco Chapter of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC-SF) cordially invites you to the:

ADC-SF Annual Banquet on Saturday, April 12 at 7PM at the Grand Ballroom, Cathedral Hill Hotel at 1101 Van Ness Avenue.*

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Azmi Bishara, Palestinian political activist and leader and founder of the Balad (Democratic National Assembly) Party.

Dr. Bishara has served in the Israeli Knesset for many years, a leading advocate for democracy and civil rights for the Arab minority inside Israel. He comes to us after emerging triumphant against being undemocratically silenced by the Israeli Supreme Court for his support of the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people.

To Purchase Tickets: Contact adcsf@hotmail.com or call 415.861.7444. Tickets are $60 ($40 Students) each. **

Even if you cannot attend the actual event, you can show your support by purchasing a ticket and perhaps passing it back to ADC-SF or to someone else, like an Arab youth. At such a critical time, ADC-SF needs your help to step up its services to respond to the needs of the community, like free legal clinics for immigrants, "Know Your Rights" education, our 24-hour bilingual hate crimes hotline, political education, and much more.

*The Grand Ballroom of the Cathedral Hill Hotel is at 1101 Van Ness Avenue (near Post Street, at the corer of Geary Blvd).

**Organizations buying a table (10 tickets - $600) will be listed on the program as sponsors.
