An official at Iran's Ministry of Health has said that no case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic has been reported in the Islamic Republic yet, IRNA reported from Tehran.
The Persian-language newspaper `Jaam-e Jam' quoted Gouya, the head of the Department for Managing Diseases of the ministry, as saying that no suspected patient of SARS has been admitted to Iranian hospitals upto now.
He added that the ministry had decided that it is not necessary to quarantine those who arrive in Iran's airports from south east Asian countries.
Gouya further called on Iranian nationals not to make unnecessary trips to China, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam now that the typical pneumonia is raging through those countries.
He also said that several hospitals in Tehran currently stand alert to receive patients who are suspected to be infected with the SARS.
