The Armenian community residing in Isfahan attended a mass at Julfa church in Isfahan on Sunday to commemorate Easter, which marks the Resurrection of their prophet Jesus Christ, IRNA reported.
Similar commemoration ceremonies were also held in the historical Vank and Maryam churches, where hymns were chanted and special Easter rites were performed.
Christians around the world commemorate the resurrection of Jesus, an event associated with his crucifixion, once they observe the new moon on the first Sunday in April, called Easter.
At present, around 12,000 Armenian followers of Jesus Christ, reside in Isfahan province, of whom 7,000 live in the ancient historical district of Julfa.
Armenians have been living in Isfahan since the reign of Safavid dynasty. They were encouraged by Shah Abbas Safavid to reside in the city which served as the capital during the era.
