President of Iran's Wrestling
Federation Mohammad-Reza Taleqani said in Qazvin on Sunday that Iran will
participate in the World Championships of Freestyle Wrestling in New
York in September, IRNA reported.
Taleqani said the problems that existed between the two countries
regarding the participation of athletes from both sides in mutual
competitions have been removed.
However, he did not give further details in that connection.
Taleqani also added that Kevin Jackson, the head coach of the US
national wrestling squad, is due to head a team from a US college in
Iran's Takhti Wrestling Competitions to be held in June.
"Yet, any further decision regarding the participation of the US
team will be taken once the prevailing tense regional situation is
over," he said.
Iran had last month boycotted the 2003 World Cup Wrestling
Championship in Boise, Idaho, for the US failure to remove immigration
checks on Iranian athletes that included fingerprinting.
