Parliament speaker inaugurates Iran's largest textile factory

A cotton factory with the production capacity of eight thousands tons a year, Iran's largest textile factory, was inaugurated in the industrial city of Farmihan in the presence of Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi on Saturday, IRNA reported from Arak.

The factory, built in an area of 65,000 square meters, has a 42,000 square meters of build-up and hence is Iran's largest textile factory.

Some 550 people are to work in the manufacturing unit and some 29.5 million euros have been allocated to purchase equipment for the factory.

A number of ranking officials including Minister of industries and Mines, MPs from the Central Province in the parliament as well as provincial officials attended the ceremony.

Karroubi arrived in the province earlier in the day to hold meetings with the provincial authorities and people and to attend inauguration ceremonies of some development projects.

Talking to reporters, he said his Arak visit's aim was to get briefed on the hardships and challenges facing the public in the province.

Accompanied by minister of industries and MPs from Arak in his three-day provincial visit, Karroubi is also to pay visits to different towns of central province to identify the problems of people in direct talks with them.

Finally, the speaker is expected to attend sessions with the provincial officials to discuss ways and means to settle the challenges and drawbacks facing the province.

Earlier in the day, Karroubi met with a gathering of the martyrs' families and war veterans in Arak where he stressed the unity between the officials and people to tackle the problems facing the nation and to foil the conspiracies against the Islamic system of Iran.

Every Iranian, he noted, shoulders a responsibility to contribute to the national unity and prosperity as the United States and its allies are hatching ploys against the Iranian system by trying to intensify tension in Iran and to divide the people and officials.

Present in the gathering, Director General of the Martyrs Foundation of the Central province Hojjatoleslam Seyed Hassan Moazeni commented on the problems facing the martyrs' families.
