Minister of Post, Telegraph and Telephone
Ahmad Motamedi is to appear before Majlis to respond to questions
of 40 lawmakers on the ministry`s action in "filtering certain
websites and sealing satellite equipment," IRNA reported from Tehran.
Member of the Industries and Mines Commission at Majlis Seyed Ali
-Akbar Mousavi Khoeini told reporters here on Wednesday that Ministry
of Post, Telegraph and Telephone (PTT) have been filtering certain
websites upon the approval of the High Council on Cultural
Revolution.
Khoeini quoted Vice-President Hojatoleslam Mohammad-Ali Abtahi as
telling members of Majlis Industrial Commission recently that any
approach to websites would be possible based on Majlis approval. He
further quoted Abtahi as saying that based on the law, only TV related
equipment can be sealed but not internet-related equipment.
He said website filtering has turned into a factional move in
Iran.
"Certain websites continue to insult legal and real entities but
no action has been taken against them," complained Khoeini.
He questioned legality of the committee assigned by High
council on Cultural Revolution to filter websites.
