Mexican Cultural Festival opens in Iran's historical city of Isfahan

Mexico's cultural festival was inaugurated in Isfahan on Sunday evening in a ceremony attended by Mexico's ambassador to Iran and some local artists, IRNA reported.

Mexico's ambassador to Iran Salvador Casian Santos said the purpose of holding such a festival was promoting culture and art of the two countries as well as mutual understanding.

In Mexico's cultural festival, held within 6-9 December, some 26 short films of Mexican directors are to be screened.

The Mexican official said that Iran and Mexico enjoy many common features in culture and civilization and have made major contributions to the world history and civilization.

He also described political relationship between the two countries as satisfactory , saying the mutual cooperation in the fields of culture and training are expanding.

Mexico's ambassador to Iran added that Iran as the most ancient country in the Middle East and Mexico as the most ancient country in South America have a historical common point.

Santos said Mexican embassy in Iran has some cultural and training programs in hand such as providing scholarships for Iranian citizens to pass some training courses in Mexico.

Director General of Culture and Islamic Guidance Department of the province Khosrowneshan, on his part, said in the festival that holding cultural festivals of foreign countries in Isfahan is a good way for the artists and the local people to understand arts and cultures of other nations.

An art gallery including 54 artistic works in the fields of pottery, photography and paintings of Mexican artists and traditional costumes of the country are set up alongside the festival in Isfahan.
