Quake hits southern Iranian city

An earthquake measuring 4.1 degrees on the Richter scale hit parts of the southern Khuzestan province Thursday, with no immediate report about probable property damage or casualties, IRNA reported from Tehran.

The Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered a tremor at 13:46 hours (11:16 GMT) and centered it 60 km north of Masjid-i-Soleyman.

The city, place to the first Iranian oil well, has witnessed dislocation of thousands of local residents recently as poisonous gases have opened pores out of the ground, creating an atmosphere of terror.
