President Mohammad Khatami on Sunday called for campaign against terrorism and unilateralism at international level, IRNA reported from Tehran.
In a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Askar Akayev, Khatami laid emphasis on the importance of efforts to establish stability and security in the region, and strengthen economic, scientific and technical ties.
Pointing to cultural and historical commonalities between Tehran and Bishkek as well as friendly bilateral ties in recent years, he voiced Iran's serious determination to expand mutual relations in all fields.
He said development, progress and expansion of cooperation would be in the interest of both sides.
Khatami referred to documents signed by the two countries during his visit to Bishkek on avoiding double taxation and encouraging joint venture and stressed the need to prepare the grounds to implement the documents.
Pointing to potentials and position of ECO member states, he said, "We should try to further materialize the goals of the organization in today's economy through free trade."
He noted that establishment of a popular government in Iraq would be an step towards the interests of the Iraqi nation and even the occupiers and said, "We should all try to establish stability in Iraq and allows its nation to decide on heir own fate. Tehran is ready to cooperate with the global community in this regard."
The president hoped sustainable peace would be established in Palestine through return of all Palestinian refugees to their homeland, restoration of their legitimate rights and the Palestinians' rule over their fate.
He said the two countries share similar stance on development and progress as well as fight against terrorism and establishment of security and stability in the world.
Tehran and Bishkek are determined to stand close to each other he said, assessing bilateral cooperation in line with regional peace and progress.
Akayev, for his part, pointed to necessary potentials for expansion of cooperation and called for continuation of such cooperation at regional and international levels.
He said implementation of accords between the sides in various areas and within the framework of the economic commission would lead to further promotion of commercial, scientific and cultural ties.
The Kyrgyz president said Tehran and Bishkek have set a target of 200 million dollars worth of trade exchanges and voiced pleasure with measures adopted by the two sides' commerce ministries in this regard.
Economic development in the region would demand establishment of stability and security in the region and strengthening of ECO, Akayev said, adding political will could be effective in reinvigorating cooperation.
He stressed the problems facing the Iraqi nation should be settled through the United Nations and based on international regulations.
