An earthquake with an intensity of 5 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the central city of Qom on Wednesday, IRNA reported.
The seismological bases of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to Tehran University, said the tremor, which epicentered in an area 100 km southwest of the capital Tehran, occurred at 07:20 hours local time (0350 GMT).
There were no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.
The 5-Richter quake also hit areas in the Markazi (Central) province.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
