Berlin, Feb 8, IRNA -- An Iranian delegation, headed by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Gholamali Khoshroo, arrived in Munich on Saturday for its first-ever participation at the 39th annual Munich Security Conference, according to IRNA.
The Iranian deputy minister is to address on Sunday the three-day international security forum on the latest developments in the Persian Gulf region as well Iran's status in this sensitive part of the world.
The Iranian delegation includes the foreign ministry's political director, Amir Zamani Nia and Iran's Ambassador to Germany Seyyed Shamsoddin Khareqani.
Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi who was initially scheduled to take part in the meeting, cancelled his attendance on Friday.
Some 27 foreign and defense ministers, among them US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov, are participating at the meeting which was to focus on the Iraq conflict, the global anti-terror campaign and NATO expansion.
The Munich security conference is also commonly known in the German media as the 'NATO security conference' as it became the forum of NATO member states to devise political and military strategies to contain the former Soviet Union during the Cold War years.
