Tehran, Feb 11, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi on Tuesday rejected claims that Tehran had held any talks with Washington on Iraq.
Asefi also rejected US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher's statement on Iran, US talks on Iraq.
He said, "Tehran opposes war on Iraq and has not the least trust in the US for talks in that regard."
Boucher had on Monday declined to confirm or deny the media reports that Washington had sent an envoy to Tehran for talks with Iranian officials on Iraq.
Boucher had also said that Washington and Tehran had been in contact in the past, particularly on issues related to Afghanistan.
Asefi stressed, "The Iraqi issue is totally different with that of Afghanistan."
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran had held talks with the US on Afghan issues under the UN supervision and this has already been announced.
