Tehran, Feb 15, IRNA -- Iran is to start exporting gas to the autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2003), a morning daily announced on Saturday.
The Persian daily `Entekhab' quoted informed sources as saying that according to an agreement signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Azeri Republic, the former has committed to export some 15 million cubic meters of natural gas annually to Nakhichevan in the next five years.
The agreement further provides that the volume of gas exports by Iran could be increased to 350 million cubic meters after the expiration of the five-year period if the gas pipelines that are to carry natural gas from Iran to the Nakhichevan Republic will then be ready to take the increased capacity, the daily added.
According to Azeri sources, the agreement will probably be finalized in March with the Azeri Republic committing itself to returning the same amount of gas to Iran within a period of three years.
