Tehran, Feb 15, IRNA -- Two prisoners were killed and 10 others seriously injured during a riot which broke out at a main prison in the central city of Isfahan and lasted 12 hours, the Persian daily Kayhan reported Saturday.
The daily cited an informed source at the prison as saying that he mayhem started at a cell 'known for the executed' and spread to other units.
The riot started at 16:00 hours on Sunday and continued until 04:00 Monday, Kayhan said, adding those injured, including two for eye injuries, were taken to hospital.
The rioters were demanding the release of those who had been arrested on drug offenses and kept in solitary confinement, the paper said.
Prison wardens also confiscated an unspecified amount of narcotics in the cells, it added.
