Vienna, Feb 18, IRNA -- Iranian Majlis deputy Ms Elaheh Kolaei here Monday called on the World Trade Organization (WTO) to pay more attention to the status of non-member states, criticizing the world body for rejecting Iran's request to join the organization.
Kolaei along with a number of other Iranian MPs are now representing Iran to a joint meeting of European Parliament and the Inter-parliamentary Union in Vienna.
She said unfortunately the World Trade Organization has excluded the Islamic Republic of Iran from its technical assistance programs over the past few year.
Another parliamentarian Iraj Nadimi commented on the existing hurdles to the admission of new members to the WTO.
Since its establishment seven years ago, WTO inspired by big powers, has exercised discriminatory behavior to developing countries with regards to granting privileges, he said.
The joint meeting between the European Parliament and the Inter-parliamentary Union attended by 14 countries as well as a number of international organizations, opened on Sunday to review the issues relevant to world trade.
