Tehran, Feb 24, IRNA -- Some 29 mentally and physically disabled people who had been newly transferred to a rehabilitation clinic in Tehran have died in a period of 50 days, an Iranian daily reported here on Monday.
The Persian-language daily `Hambastegi' in a special report wrote that the disabled had been declared to have died from a range of illnesses such as mental retardation, epilepsy, and tuberculosis.
However, it quoted a student group who had constant contact with the disabled at the center as saying that they had possibly died for being away from their family and friends.
The officials of the clinic, that has not been named, have told Hambastegi that they are not allowed to give any details or make any comment on the issue.
The deceased, identified only by their first name, aged between 10 to 44, and were men and women.
