Noshahr, Mazandaran prov, Feb 27, IRNA -- In a massive avalanche in Kandavan, northern Iran on Wednesday, 20 travellers heading for northern Iran lost their lives and four citizens from Noshahr were injured.
According to experts, this is not the first time that avalanche has claimed victims on the northern road known as Kandavan.
Based on the available data, many lives were claimed by avalanches in the past due to the failure of the Roads and Transportation Ministry officials and the highway police to enforce safety measures along Chalous-Karaj road.
Experts believe that the officials in charge should take serious measures to improve the Kandavan and Haraz roads.
A Noshahri citizen, who was transporting citrus to Tehran in his Nissan pick-up, along with his wife and two children are among the victims of the catastrophic natural disaster.
The bodies of the four Noshahri victims were buried at the public cemetery of the city on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chalous road, which links the capital city of Tehran to the northern Mazandaran province, is often prone to avalanches and heavy snowfalls in winter.
The road is often witness to heavy traffic as many Iranians head for the northern seaside resorts for their holidays.
