Khomein, Markazi prov, Feb 27, IRNA -- Director of 'Iran Khodro' Automobile Company for Planning Affairs Hojjat Moeini said here Thursday that Iran ranks 11th among the world's automobile manufacturers. He said previously the country occupied the 14th place.
Speaking at a seminar on effective quality management and ISO 9000 standards, he added that automobile production has increased from 700,000 units in the previous calculations to 900,000 units.
He also stressed efforts at consumer satisfaction as extremely important to gain market share.
He said quality planning was the common denominator in automobile manufacturing worldwide.
The auto manufacturing giant has announced that it will produce up to one million cars under a 10-year program.
Managing Director of Iran Khodro Manouchehr Manteqi told a group of his personnel that his company's products would reach 300,000 by end of the year and 450,000 next year.
Manteqi made the remark at ceremonies, held on the occasion of his company's record production this year (started March 21, 2002) as its 225,000th car hit the market earlier in January.
Manteqi said that his company had produced 174,577 cars in the period March-January. He said that his company aims to improve the quality and quantity of its products.
In February, a visiting delegation from French automobile Companies 'Peugeot' and 'Citroen' and Head of Iran Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) Reza Vaiseh reviewed ways of cooperation in automobile manufacturing.
The IDRO public relations department said the two sides also signed an agreement to form a working group to be monitor coordination of activities between the French car companies and their Iranian counterparts 'Iran-Khodro', 'Saipa' and IDRO.
