Gavbandi, Hormuzgan Prov, Jan 5, IRNA -- Fifteen people were killed and 18 others injured--mostly university students and professors-- after a bus plunged into a valley on Gavbandi-Bandar Lengeh road Saturday night.
The injured, some of them said to be in critical condition, were taken to local hospitals in the cities of Lar, Bushehr, Bandar Lengeh and Lamerd.
Police blamed the accident on the driver's recklessness and the slippery condition of the road due to melting snow.
In a similar incident, three people were killed when a train collided with a car in the Mohammadshahr area of Karaj city in Tehran province early Sunday.
Iran has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with an average of 200,000 reported annually in which 15,000 people are killed and 87,000 injured.
Transport experts blame most of the accidents on dilapidated vehicles and reckless driving.
