Bushehr, Jan 8, IRNA -- Deputy Minister of Health Mohammad Ismail Akbari said the cost associated with natural disasters, and traffic accidents is around Dlrs 10 billion annually.
He told IRNA that there is a need for change of behavior in society to remove those incidents that threaten the health of the public.
Although such concern of the existence of wide-spread microbes and viruses have been eliminated, other "improper behavior" threaten the health of the society.
He said over rls 10,000 billion are the cost of imprisonment, and treatment expenses due to incidents and disasters.
He said that another important factor is having a healthy diet for reducing health-related problems.
Akbari said here earlier in December that the financial costs attributed to premature deaths in Iran are estimated to be US dlrs 19.5 billion annually.
He said each year in Iran over four to 5.3 million years are lost due to premature deaths 'which is equivalent to country's total oil and non-oil revenues'.
He also blamed the traffic-related and other types of accidents as the reason for these deaths.
He said most of the deaths under 50 years of age is associated with various accidents, and for the people over 50, heart and coronary-related diseases have been shown to be closely linked with premature death.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Akbari said that health is basis of sustainable socio-economic development and 'allocating sufficient investments in the sector is the fastest and most convenient approach for reducing poverty in the society'.
