Tehran, Jan 12, IRNA -- The Islamic Iran Participation Front (IIPF) said on Sunday that the anti-reform activists are exploiting every opportunity to strike a blow to the reform movement.
The statement said that the caricature printed in Hayat-No daily on Wednesday depicts the dispute between the former US president and the chief justice in 1937 and has nothing to do with the late Imam Khomeini.
"We believe that every honorable Iranian and freedom lover respects the lofty personality of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini and any disrespect to Imam Khomeini is unforgivable. But, the current wave of protest against the reformist daily has political motive to orchestrate a political crackdown against the reform camp," the statement said.
The IIPF appreciated the sentiments of religious leaders who have expressed outrage at any possible disrespect to the late Imam Khomeini, but said that those who organized such a protest have political ambition.
The political party said that legal proceedings should be held however to determine whether or not there is a matter of culpability.
