EVENT: 2003 SiliconIran Excellence Awards and Entrepreneurship Workshops

February 7th 2003 - Ritz Carlton in San Francisco

San Jose, CA. Jan 8th, 2003 - In 2002, SiliconIran, Inc. held the first of it's kind awards ceremony to honor Iranian- Americans who had demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial success in high technology. During the planning stages of last year's event, the political atmosphere and issues surrounding the Mid-East had taken a dismal turn and the US economy was not showing any signs of revival. In spite of these odds, the founders of SiliconIran, decided nevertheless to continue with the event, with the hope of delivering an award ceremony that could bring light and recognition to Iranian-American entrepreneurs who have contributed to the greater community and made it the success it is, a hot bed of technology, ideas and entrepreneurship. The event was intended to honor Iranian-Americans that were considered entrepreneurial heroes, grand technologists and brilliant marketers. To the organizers' surprise, the event sold out and was enthusiastically attended by some of high-tech's most powerful professionals. Today, SiliconIran is proud to continue the tradition it started by once again celebrating those individuals who have been successful and have demonstrated the true spirit of the entrepreneur.

It is projected that this year's event will be larger than last year's event and will host some of the most powerful names in technology and politics in the US. The Second Annual SiliconIran Excellence Awards Gala will be held on February 7, 2003 at the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. Over 300 participants are expected to attend the daylong event. San Francisco Mayor, Willie Brown will open the evening's program. Congressman Mike Honda is also scheduled to speak. The evening awards program will honor the 15 top Iranian entrepreneurs and executives with awards of accomplishment in select categories.

*Workshop & Award Gala

This year, SiliconIran is planning on delivering the event with two distinct approaches. SiliconIran will not only be celebrating the successes of Iranian-American entrepreneurs through its awards and recognition, but will also teach attendees how to achieve success through a series of focused workshops to be held throughout the day.

*The Angel/Venture Capital Networking Convergence

Over the past two years, SiliconIran has earned a reputation for delivering large and prestigious conferences and professional gatherings in the high tech community. Some of the most distinguished venture firms and financial institutions in the US participate in SiliconIran events. With this established track record, SiliconIran in partnership with Silicon Valley Bank will sponsor a Venture Capital Networking Luncheon. The luncheon is designed to provide attendees and venture capitalists the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, successes and of course, failures.

Throughout the day, SiliconIran will be hosting entrepreneurship workshops for those individuals who wish to learn from some of the most seasoned and weathered entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in the Bay Area. Some of the most influential names in business such as Irwin Federman, Harry Kellogge, Fred Nazem, Kamran Elahian, Somshankar Das, and Faraj Aalaei are among the confirmed speakers. These giants will be there to dispel myths, offer advice, share stories and even listen to pitches and consider funding projects.

"Events like the awards ceremony and the networking workshops have proven not only to be important to Iranian-Americans but have also proven to be beneficial to the high-tech community at large," said Susan Akbarpour, CEO and Co-founder of SiliconIran. "Iranian-Americans make up a significant percentage of high-level executives in the Bay Area and the contributions they have made have proven to be important to the high- tech world and to the Bay Area's economy as a whole. It is wonderful that such prestigious names in politics, and executives continue to show their support by participating in our events."
