Tehran, Jan 19, IRNA -- The Spokesman of Ministry of Interior Affairs Jahanbakhsh Khanjani said here on Saturday that the interior minister would make clear the status of Tehran Mayor within the next couple of days.
Khanjani made the comments in an interview with IRNA following the spreading of a rumor in the society on the firing of the current Tehran mayor, and the selection of his substitute.
He added, "the interior minister is painstakingly studying the matter and consulting with involved individuals on decision making about the capital."
The interior ministry spokesman confirmed that there are lobbying on the status of both the Tehran Municipality, and the Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Hassan Malek-Madani, adding, "anything might happen.
He might either remain mayor, or be replaced, but there is still no final decision about the matter and the interior minister has still not announced his stand on the matter."
Khanjani further stressed, "dealing with Tehran's problems and related issues is an important matter that cannot be intermingled with factional, partisan or groups' interests, and that is why the interior minister is keeping in account all involved factors in that regard."
There have been rumors on the interior minister's decision to replace Tehran Mayor Malek Madani with someone else during the next couple of days.
Tehran City Council that is in charge of dealing with the selection of the Tehran mayor, and replacing him was recently dissolved following a couple of years of internal conflicts by a commission comprised of parliament members, as well as interior ministry and judiciary representatives.
