Tehran, Jan 25, IRNA -- Eleven Iranian youth, including several junior students, have been flogged west of this capital city for drinking alcohol, press said Saturday.
The Persian daily Seday-e Edalat said that the culprits, whose ages were not given, received 100 lashes each, including 80 for consuming alcohol and 20 others for hollering under the influence of booze in the public.
The punishments, given by Tehran Justice Department, were implemented at the Boustan district in Robat Karim after the convicts pleaded guilty, the paper said.
Alcohol is banned in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, but religious minorities are allowed to drink in their private circles.
