Speaking at a meeting of Moderation and Development Party members, he referred to last month's student demonstrations in the country and criticized familiar elements both in and outside the country for statements in support of rioters that fueled their passions.
He called attention to the current situation in the country with America putting its weight behind certain deceived anti-revolutionary elements, and said all political groups should unite so as not to waste the nation's resources and capabilities and give the enemies an opportunity to profit from domestic problems.
Pointing to the achievements of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in the political, economic, social and cultural areas, the Expediency Council (EC) chairman noted that certain people have been trying to disappoint the nation by ignoring the achievements of the system and the Islamic Revolution and depicting them as failures.
Referring to the recent remarks of the Grand Leader of the Islamic Revolution who stressed the need to boost domestic and foreign investment in order to solve the country's economic problems, he underlined the importance of being sensitive to the people's demands and requirements in daily life.
He also stressed the importance of focusing on economic development alongside justice and moderation and boosting of investments as crucial to solving the many problems of society, particularly the increasing poverty and unemployment.
Commenting on the admitted failure of the US to manage the affairs in Iraq, the EC chairman said that while the Iraqi people may have been pleased with the downfall of Saddam Hossein, they feel the presence of American soldiers has not had a positive effect and their expectations have not been met.
He said the quick war in Iraq which has now turned into a bloody peace has now heaped hatred on the Americans in the face of world public opinion.
The EC chairman further called on all political parties and figures to achieve convergence in order to confront US threats on Iran.
