The Iranian robocup team on Sunday won over
their rivals in the international "RoboCup-2003" (www.robocup2003.org) soccer competition in
the northern Italian city of Padova, IRNA reported.
The Iranian team, called Persia and consisting of four robots from Isfahan's
Sana'ati University, defeated the Japanese team and the 2002
runner-up team in the small-size soccer contest 4-1.
The team also crushed the German champions in 2003 9-0 and their
Australian, Portugese and Japanese rivals.
Clinching five victories, Isfahan's Sana'ati University robocup
team now qualify for the quarter final.
The Iranian teams from Tehran's Shahid Beheshti University,
Mashhad's Ferdowsi University, Hamedan's Bu-Ali Sina and Qazvin's Azad
University are to commence their matches today.
Some 250 teams from 34 countries are taking part in the 10-day
international "Robocup 2003" soccer competition which opened on
Tuesday in Padova and includes the small, medium-size and simulation
leagues of Italy.
