The 18th of Tir Anniversary and Remembrance
By Fareed Marjaee
ommat2@yahoo.ca

The name of the young man who was killed in student demonstrations of the 18th of Tir in 1999 is "Ezzat Ebrahimnezhad."

Couple of months after the events of student unrest, "Iran-e Farda" magazine published an interview with his family [sister]. It was a telling and moving interview. When the family received the body, there were signs of knifings and brass knuckle on the body; all indications point to a kidnapping before he was shot dead. That could be because Ezzat was an active student in Ahvaz; he would help commemorate Dr. Shariati's anniversary in Ahvaz.

Let us remember him, and tell people about the untimely death of this hero of the 18th of Tir who lost his life for his beliefs; every chance we get. Wherever we are on the 18th, we may want to observe a minuet of silence in honor and memory of Ezzat Ebrahimnezhad; and all those students who have suffered, in order to help the democratic impulse of our society.
