Junior Iranian volleyballers to fight Russia July 9

Iran will meet Russia Wednesday in the second round of World Juniors' Volleyball Championships in Thailand, IRNA reported.

In another match the two leaders India and Australia play on July 9.

According to a draw, other matches are held Wednesday as follows:

Brazil vs Italy

Netherlands vs Czech Republic

China vs Thailand

Iran defeated Morocco, the Netherlands, and Italy respectively.

On Saturday, Iran took the first step firmly as it trounced the Moroccan side in three consecutive sets.

Playing in a volleyball hall of the Thai capital Bangkok, the determined Iranian juniors handed Morocco a 3-0 licking, winning 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 in three straight games.

In its second match on Sunday, Iran thrashed the Netherlands. The win gave Iran a berth in the second round of the prestigious volleyball meet.

Iran handed the Dutch players a 3-0 defeat as it won 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 in three straight games.

The Iranian volleyball team proved formidable Monday as it demolished runner-up Italy in the world juniors event in Thailand.

It extended its winning streak as it routed the powerful Italian side 3-1, rolling into the second round as the Group D leader with six points.

Iran won the first, third, and fourth sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 and Italy won the second game 26-24.

Iran was drawn with Italy, the Netherlands, and Morocco in Group D during a ceremony held on June 8 for the World Juniors' Volleyball Championships in Bangkok.

In the presence of representatives of participating countries, the 16 teams were divided into following four groups:

Group A: Thailand, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Argentina

Group B: Latvia, China, Egypt, Slovakia

Group C: Brazil, Poland, Czech Republic, India

Group D: Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Morocco
