Iranian daily Hambastegi is suspended temporarily

The morning daily `Hambastegi' published in the Iranian capital was suspended temporarily on Sunday for not having a managing director, IRNA reported from Tehran.

The Public Relations Office of Tehran's Public and Revolutionary Courts said in a statement faxed to IRNA Sunday that the daily was slapped a temporary suspension order by the judiciary as of Sunday for falling short of a pertinent requirement of the law.

According to the statement, following the resignation of the daily's former managing director, Ebrahim-bi Salami, the director- general for Domestic Media Affairs of the Ministry of Culure and Islamic Guidance asked the daily's license holder to name another person to the vacant post.

The daily's failure to so in due time, the statement added, led to its temporary suspension from publication.

It further said that although a new managing director, Ali Saleh Abadi, had been appointed to take the place of Salami, his appointment was not introduced to the ministry on time because of disagreements in the daily's policymaking council, a fact conceded by Abadi himself.

The Persian daily `Hambastegi' was first published by Ebrahim Asgharzadeh, who was also its first managing director. He was replaced by Ebrahim-bi Salami who resigned recently.
