A second earthquake measuring
3.7 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale shook the town of
Zarrin-Dasht, in the southern province of Fars on Monday morning, IRNA reprted from Shiraz.
The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute affiliated to
Tehran University said the tremor had its epicenter in the same
region between Zarrin-Dasht and the city of Jahrom 215 kilometers
southeast of Shiraz.
The quake occurred at 8:58 a.m. local time (0428 GMT). No report
of any casualty or damage has been received.
An earlier earthquake hit the town at dawn today.
On Thursday night, two earthquakes hit the same region killing
one and causing damage to 4,000 houses, 40 schools and a number of
government buildings.
Damage from the two tremors, with intensities of 5.6 and 5.8
degrees each, was estimated at rls 150 billion.
They were followed by some 44 aftershocks ranging in intensity
from 2.1 to 4.2 degrees.
Zarrin-Dasht, 300 km southeast of Shiraz, has a population of
70,000 people.
